Michael Gentry Detwiler
Roots
I guess you could say I was naturally born to be an Aerial Surveyor. My Maternal Great-Great-Grandfather, Elbert Gentry, was a land surveyor, and my Paternal Grandfather, Joe Detwiler, was a Lieutenant Commander and pilot in the Navy. So, needless to say, I took the two, and here we are!
Career
I have worked in the surveying and geospatial industry for 23 years, with most of those years focused on aerial mapping, lidar, and photogrammetry. Early in my career, I had the opportunity to travel to 31 states and 12 countries, working on projects that ranged from transmission power line lidar mapping and multi-oblique cityscape photogrammetry to unmanned aerial systems (UAS) mapping at mines.
I take pride in my work and enjoy sharing industry insights and best practices at speaking engagements around the country. I’ve spoken at GeoWeek, the Commercial UAV Expo, and several state survey conferences. I lead the industry in UAS applications for commercial and residential land development, transportation, and mining. As well as many other applications and industries for which this technology lends itself.
